The first thing you need to do is to apply for your provisional driving licence. You can apply online via http://www.direct.gov.uk/ or alternatively forms are available at the Post Office. For a fee of £4 they can check your application and validate your identification. This normally arrives within a couple of weeks and then you are ready to begin – give us a call to arrange your lessons!

We will guide you through the two parts of the driving test:

1. The theory test
This is made up of a multiple choice section on all aspects of driving and an electronic hazard perception test. The Highway Code is an essential document to assist with your preparation. You can acquire a copy from any good bookshop or from the Stationery Office (see the links section). There are also CD-ROMs which you can purchase.

You can take the theory test as soon as you are ready after receiving your licence but you need to pass your practical test within 2 years of passing your theory test.

2. The practical test
Our training will prepare you for the practical test. We will follow the syllabus given in the DSA's Offical Driving Test and recommend their publication: Driving – The Essential Skills. We will go at a pace that you are comfortable with and when you are ready we will book your test for you.

Our support doesn’t end when you pass your test. We would recommend that you consider taking Pass Plus. This extends your experience to include motorway driving, and experience of driving at night and in different weather conditions. Not only will this improve your standard of driving but it also leads to lower insurance premiums.
